Company History

Animal League of Gaston County non-profit began in 2003, with a Mission to promote companion animal welfare
in the community through advocacy, education and service. By 2009, we opened our original spay/neuter clinic in an old Papa John's Pizza.

In 2017, we were gifted an old bank building in the center of downtown Gastonia, NC. We reopened the Spay/Neuter Clinic and nearly doubled the number of spay/neuters performed each year. To date, ALGC has performed over 92,000 successful surgeries and, according to the City of Gastonia Manager saved the County of Gastonia over 34.8 Million dollars in shelter and euthanasia fees. Since 2009, Gaston County Shelter intake has reduced by 66% and euthanasia at the local shelter down to less than 5%.

We were given a starting grant of $400,000 to begin building our full-service state-of the-art animal hospital on our building's second floor. We have since raised another $600,000 in donations, grants and bequests. Grant applications are outstanding for another $500,000 in funding. The new Veterinary hospital opened June 20, 2025 and we wish to employ a minimum of three full-time veterinarians.

This non-profit is currently run by a Medical Director with 40 years of veterinary experience, a highly skilled high volume spay/neuter veterinarian and two retired attorneys with the business acumen to run the business end of the non-profit.

Many of our staff have been with us for over 5 years, three staff members have been with us over 10 years. They are highly skilled Vet assistants and Vet technicians.

We are a platinum and four star rated public charity.
