The Director of Veterinary Operations is responsible for providing business planning and management services, with a strong customer service mindset. Responsibilities include operational and financial planning, resource management, marketing, facilities and staff management, and compliance to support effective business operations of public veterinary services, while ensuring the delivery of the highest quality client and animal care.
In conjunction with the Director of Veterinary Medicine and Chief Financial Officer, develop a strategic financial plan integrating potential new areas of service delivery and technology solutions
Implement strategic planning through identifying benchmarks, realigning resources and ensuring the delivery of quality client care
In conjunction with the Director of Veterinary Medicine, develop, analyze and report key performance indicators for veterinary service providers
Assist in the development of departmental goals
Ensure required compliance with local, state, federal regulations, standards and laws governing veterinary healthcare operations
Oversee and ensure efficient utilization and application of operational systems, databases and scheduling
Research and anticipate trends and opportunities to extend access of care in a sustainable manner
Ensure an excellent client experience through innovative processes and programs
Assist in the management of business marketing communications
Assist in establishing a staffing model to support clientele and projected growth of the practice
Attract, develop and retain talent to ensure that people with the right skills and motivations to meet program needs are in the right place at the right time
Create an environment that embraces change and seeks to innovate and expand cost effective services to meet the organizational goals
Other duties as required
Must understand the balance between the administrative and clinic functions in the veterinary health care delivery system and possess the ability to coordinate and allocate resources to achieve balance
Ability to interpret and apply understanding of key performance and financial indicators to improve performance and achieve organizational goals
Demonstrated experience in optimizing workflow processes
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and prioritize assignments, work independently, show initiative, and make effective, timely decisions, despite tight deadlines and competing requirements
Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality; apply mature judgment and discretion
Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing to interact effectively with clients, staff, volunteers, and vendors
Basic computer knowledge and ability to learn and utilize Microsoft Office Suite and other software programs as necessary
Five to seven years in a comparable leadership role
Work may be performed in a veterinary hospital setting
Potential exposure to animals and animal allergens
Physical efforts may require bending, stooping and lifting, pulling or pushing up to 50 lbs. with reasonable accommodations; ability to work in a high noise level area
