Assistant or Associate Professor, Clinical Track, Anesthesia. The College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Georgia, invites applications for a clinical track (non-tenure track) position in anesthesia at the rank of assistant or associate professor. All candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree, have completed an approved residency of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia or the European College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia, and have board certification or be eligible for board certification. Clinical Assistant Professor Candidates should be board certified or eligible for board certification. Candidates should show evidence of a high level of competence and demonstrated promise of moving toward excellence in patient care, student instruction, scholarly activities, or practice and service.
Clinical Associate Professor Board certification and a minimum of five years at the rank of clinical assistant professor, or comparable experience. Clear and convincing evidence of stature as a regional authority. Demonstrated excellence in clinical competency and documented excellence in patient care, student instruction, scholarly activities, or practice and service.
The major responsibilities for this position are to teach and provide anesthesia service in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Therefore, the successful candidate should promote a caseload that will serve the College of Veterinary Medicine's teaching and service needs. Additional responsibilities include teaching anesthesia topics to preclinical veterinary students, actively participating in the training of anesthesia residents and other house officers, and supervising anesthesia staff. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collegially. The candidate is encouraged to participate in scholarly activities related to the College of Veterinary Medicine's clinical service and teaching missions. Such scholarly activity includes collaboration with colleagues within the Department and College and other departments on campus. Proportionate assignments for each area will be based on the interests of the candidate in conjunction with the missions of the anesthesia program and the Department.
The successful candidate will join an anesthesia service consisting of four full-time faculty members, four residents, and ten dedicated technicians. The anesthesia service is an active clinical service providing anesthesia for equine, food animal, small animal, and exotic patients in a 300,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility opened in March 2015. Two anesthesia faculty members will share clinical service in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at all times. Faculty members share after-hours emergency anesthesia case responsibilities with the anesthesia technicians and residents. The anesthesia service enjoys collegial relations and the support of all the specialty services that treat both large and small animals.
The Department of Small Animal Medicine and Surgery consists of 45 faculty members, 37 clinical residents, 10 rotating interns, 3 specialty interns, and 4 administrative staff members. The Department provides shared laboratory space and technical support, with 7 dedicated research technicians who assist in the Department's faculty's research missions. Other specialties within the Department include cardiology, community practice, dermatology, emergency and critical care, internal medicine, neurology, nutrition, oncology, ophthalmology, orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, and zoological medicine. The Department participates in the college-wide M.S. and Ph.D. programs. Members of the Department also actively participate in highly successful collaborative efforts with faculty members from other departments within the college and other colleges on campus, including the College of Public Health, College of Engineering, and the Athens campus of the Medical College of Georgia.
