Humane Ohio is a 501c3 organization that operates a stationary high quality, high volume spay/neuter clinic modeled after Humane Alliance, located in Toledo, Ohio. From 2006 through 2020 Humane Ohio has performed over 190,000 spay/neuter surgeries. Humane Ohio has three veterinarians on staff currently, and a total staff of 28 people. Humane Ohio recently renovated a 10,000+ square foot building into an efficient high-volume clinic, and moved into this clinic in November 2020. This new clinic will allow the number of surgeries performed to greatly increase going forward.
In addition to routine spay/neuter for owned pets, shelter or rescue pets and community cats, Humane Ohio regularly performs life-saving surgery for dogs and cats with pyometra or dystocia, and occasionally other surgical procedures such as enucleations and amputations.
Since 2013, Humane Ohio has offered a transport program in a temperature controlled box truck to pick up animals for spay/neuter in 11 different counties. We provide such transports three to four times weekly and this program continues to grow. We work with over 40 rescues and shelters to alter their pets before adoption, and some help us org...anize transport for public pets as well.
Humane Ohio has long been the leader in our community related to care and advocacy for community cats. We operate a live-trap rental program to assist people in safe trapping of community cats, and charge a special price for spay/neuter, ear-tip and rabies vaccines for community cats of only $29. We offer an educational class periodically, “Community Cats 101”, to teach interested people how to safely trap cats in their neighborhoods and to help them understand more about community cat behavior. Humane Ohio offers feral cat shelters for purchase throughout the cold weather months to assist cat caretakers in keeping their neighborhood cats safe and warm. In 2020 alone we were able to spay/neuter, ear-tip and vaccinate over 5,000 community cats.
In 2017 Humane Ohio began a small foster-based cat adoption program to help cats and kittens most at-risk. We were being flooded with requests for assistance when area shelters were full and caring citizens wanted to help friendly outdoor cats and kittens find indoor adoptive homes. In 2020 we were able to place over 300 cats/kittens into adoptive homes. We helped cats who needed amputations, eye enucleations, wound care and those who tested positive for FIV and/or Feline Leukemia. We have been able to provide needed medical care and foster homes for healing time, and ultimately find these cats safe, indoor homes to call their own.
