Specialty Internship in Small Animal Practice combined with Emergency/Critical Care, Surgery, Internal Medicine, or Other Specialty

The University of Missouri Veterinary Health Center (MU VHC) in conjunction with the Webster Groves Animal Hospital & Urgent Care Center (WGAH) of St. Louis, MO is soliciting applications for a one-year internship in small animal general practice, combined with small animal emergency/critical care, small animal surgery, small animal internal medicine, radiology, small animal nutrition, or other specialty, to begin July 15, 2021.  A research/teaching option in small animal surgery, small animal emergency and/critical care, or other available specialty for the university portion of the internship is also possible for the interested candidate. This internship is designed to prepare the intern for application to a residency in the candidate’s intended specialty while practicing high quality small animal medicine at a large multi-doctor private practice and rotating in the specialty of choice at the MU VHC.

At the WGAH, the intern will work three consecutive 12-hour full-service shifts (typically, Friday-Saturday-Sunday) every other week, and these shifts could be overnight. When not in St. Louis, structured exposure to the intern’s specialty of choice (Emergency/Critical Care, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Radiology, Nutrition, or other available specialty) will be provided at the MU VHC. The ideal applicant is one who has at least one year of private practice experience or has completed a small animal rotating internship and who desires to pursue residency training upon completion of this specialty internship. Eligibility for a license to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Missouri is mandatory. Maintaining a valid driver’s license for the duration of the program is required. Annual salary is $27,500.00, with full university benefits plus a $600 professional development fund assuming continual financial health of the VHC and a mileage reimbursement to offset travel costs between St. Louis and Columbia, MO. Ten days paid annual leave may be taken during the University component of the program.

The program is restricted to United States Citizens, United States Permanent Residents (i.e. those holding a “Green Card”), or non-residents who have Employment Authorization from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service valid for the duration of the program. The School provides neither assistance for nor support for obtaining such Employment Authorization.
