Education: Must possess a DVM or VMD degree from an accredited college or university and be licensed to practice as a Veterinarian in the State of Florida prior to starting work.
 
Experience: At least one (1) year of experience is preferred working in the capacity of a Veterinarian to include performing spay/neuter surgeries and pre-pubescent sterilizations required. Shelter Medicine Certification or experience working in an animal shelter preferred.

Shelter veterinarian will:

Perform spay/neuters on adopted pets including prepubescent animals;

Create treatment plans for sick/injured pets;

Provide evaluations and treatments for neglected or abused animals;

Testify in court regarding animal cruelty, fighting, neglect cases;

Assist with the pet retention program so that pets can avoid being relinquished to the shelter;

Educate staff/volunteers/public on matters of animal health and care;

Establish operating protocols to help ensure the best care possible for sheltered pets;

Help establish shelter health protocols and work to mitigate disease issues or outbreaks in the shelter;

Must be a team player with an easy to get along with attitude even in a fast-paced, often challenging work environment; 

Be willing to follow established county and internal policies and procedures.
